Two candidates are vying for the Huntsville City Council District 2 seat: Frances Akridge and Mary Jane Caylor. Akridge placed first in the August 28 election, but came just shy of securing enough votes to win outright.
Akridge and Caylor will be in the runoff on October 9. Polls will only be open in District 2, and you must be a registered voter in District 2 to cast a ballot.
If you will be out of town on election day, consider casting an absentee ballot. The last day to apply for one is October 4, and the last day to return it is October 8. Here’s more information.
The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber encourages you to vote. Local races really matter — just a few votes can impact a race’s outcome and you can often talk with your local city council or school board member at meetings or in the community. If you didn’t vote on August 28, you can still vote in the runoff.
Before the August 28 election, the Chamber sent questions to each of the candidates. Click each person’s name to see the questions and responses.
NOTE: Are you unsure about your district? Visit Alabamavotes.gov and click ‘My Polling Place.’ You must already be a registered voter in order to be in the database.
