The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) has hired Joel Lamp as the new convention sales manager. This is one of two key staff hires, rounding out the agency’s largest department, convention service and sales. The other is Kevin Belyeu, the new convention services manager.
Joel will work with sports, hobby and expo groups and events. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the sports and entertainment industry. In Jacksonville, Florida, Joel oversaw numerous sporting events and activities including the first and second rounds of the NCAA men’s basketball championship, and the NCAA Tournament first and second rounds in VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena multiple times. Joel also served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director at Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida. Joel launched the Moe’s Classic, a two-day college and high school lacrosse event and brought USA Cycling Amateur Road Nationals to Clay County in 2021.
Joel says he is excited to join the team at the Huntsville/Madison County CVB and looks forward to booking and servicing group events and activities in our community. Travel and tourism is big business in Huntsville and Madison County. Despite the pandemic, in 2020 more than 2.8 million visitors accounted for an economic impact of $1.2 billion, according to the Alabama Tourism Department.
