The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber’s Government & Public Affairs team works directly with all branches of government and government agencies to advocate for business needs and policies that help our region to grow.

GOVERNMENT & PUBLIC AFFAIRS EVENTS

The Government & Public Affairs Department hosts a number of events to reinforce our advocacy efforts. These include Updates from elected officials, trips to the State and National Capitols, and briefings from Federal and State Agencies. Our annual State and Federal Agendas are published below. The Chamber also markets the community to industrial prospects at national and international events each year to promote our region and bring jobs to the region.

Team redstone

More than half of the local economy in the Huntsville/Madison County area is tied to Federal Government spending. Redstone Arsenal houses over 70 federal entities including Marshall Space Flight Center, the Army Material Command, and Army Aviation and Missile Command, the Army Space and Missile Defense Command and many other federal agencies. Approximately 85 percent of the Missile Defense Agency’s footprint is located on Redstone Arsenal. Over 38,000 jobs are located on the Arsenal’s 38,000 acres.

For 65 years, the unique capabilities and expertise at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center have been used to design and build the rocket engines, space vehicles, space systems, instruments and science payloads that make space exploration and scientific discovery possible unprecedented missions of science and discovery through our solar system.

FBI & ATF

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Agency have located significant facilities on Redstone Arsenal to help combat terrorism at their Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center and the National Center for Explosives Training and Research. TEDAC helps to connect bomb maker with bombs in their forensic laboratories. NCETR helps to train agents to operate in the field collecting Improvised Explosive Devices both pre and post blast.
