John Cady was recently recognized by Attorney Intel as one of Alabama’s top 25 attorneys for 2024.
John currently serves as General Counsel & Vice President for Contract Operations at Shearer & Associates, Inc. He has over 50 years of highly successful government & industry experience as an attorney, contracts manager, & project manager. Mr. Cady has a proven record in solving highly complex legal and contracting problems arising from day-to-day operations of a small multimillion-dollar engineering firm supporting DOD/Army customers. He is results-oriented, a key player in developing strategic alliances, interfacing with government and commercial customers and partners, and manages all phases of contracting activities for the company. He maintains a strong work ethic with the highest level of business integrity. His accomplishments and distinguished service has been recognized throughout his career. In 2019, he received the President’s Award for Exceptional Performance, which is the highest award at Shearer Associates. Also in 2019, he was recognized by the Alabama State Bar for 50 years of honorable, devoted, and dedicated service.
Prior to joining Shearer & Associates, Inc. in 2007, Mr. Cady was employed by the U.S. Army for nearly 40 years, mostly with the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC), located on Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. He rose from an entry level attorney to Chief Counsel (GS 15) of the Huntsville Legal Office, advising senior and mid-level officials on all aspects of the law. He emerged as subject matter expert for business law, ethics and standards of conduct, contract law, environment law, labor & employment law, EEO Law, and procurement fraud. Nearly four decades of his contributions were recognized in 2009 when inducted into The Space & Missile Defense Distinguished Civilian Wall of Fame, prominently displayed in the Davidson Center of Excellence for Space Exploration, a component of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center located in Huntsville, Alabama. Among contributions mentioned are the successful defense of command officials in over 200 cases before the MSPB, EEOC, FLRA, and other administrative forums as well as assisting DOJ in defending highly visible Environmental, Tort, and EEO lawsuits.
