Jonathan Skinner joined the WAFF 48 News family as a Morning Anchor/Reporter in June 2025, and he says it’s a blessing to be in the Rocket City!
Jonathan was born in Brooklyn, NY, but grew up most of his life in the Fayetteville/Hope Mills, NC area. Before coming to Huntsville, he worked as a Morning Reporter/Fill-in Anchor in Birmingham at WBRC 6 News and as a Weekend Anchor/Multimedia Journalist at Erie News Now in Erie, PA. In both places, he covered a wide range of stories, including protests against social injustices, the COVID-19 pandemic, high school football, and more. His passion is telling stories that inspire, inform, or challenge people to think critically.
Before beginning his career in journalism, Jonathan graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, with a B.A. in Religion. While in school, he met his wife, Ebony Skinner, who graduated from Spelman College. Knowing that he had a passion for journalism and ministry, he went on to graduate from Emory University with a Master of Divinity and subsequently earned a Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University.
Jonathan’s biggest role models in life are his parents. He says his father, who passed away in 2023, and his mother taught him everything about being a man, husband, and dad. Jonathan and his wife have two amazing boys who keep them busy.
