Mary Seldon Luther arrived at Brasfield & Gorrie not a moment too soon for the company’s expanding presence in Huntsville. After growing up in Birmingham, she stayed close to home and earned a marketing degree with a real estate specialization from the University of Alabama. Mary Seldon’s career began back in Birmingham as a private banker, but things really took off when she relocated to Huntsville with her husband. Having heard about Brasfield & Gorrie’s sterling reputation for most of her life, she found out about an opening at the Huntsville office from Division Manager Sara Beth Wilcox, who encouraged her to apply. Mary Seldon accepted the position at Brasfield & Gorrie in 2022—just two weeks before her wedding—and planted her Huntsville roots accordingly.
When Mary Seldon joined the team in a hybrid role of project assistant and office manager, plans had been made to move to a new office in Lincoln Mill, and she instantly became instrumental in executing that relocation in 2023. Not only did she help with the logistics of moving, she also organized and hosted an open house for local partners once the move was complete—still the biggest event this office has put on. The Huntsville office is now up to 16 office employees and 17 field employees, and they all depend on Mary Seldon’s help day in and day out.
Though she supports the team with events and everyday tasks as Huntsville’s office manager, Mary Seldon’s bread and butter is her role as project assistant. Huntsville has become one of Brasfield & Gorrie’s hubs for commercial projects, and because this group doesn’t have the size and resources of the company’s other offices, they depend on Mary Seldon to complete a myriad of tasks. Whether she’s meeting with project managers at the office or attending business development events around North Alabama, she’s proven herself to be a valuable resource on builds of any scale. Projects like The Stella Five Points Mixed Use Development, the HudsonAlpha Discovery Life Sciences Building, Davidson Technologies’ global headquarters at Redstone Gateway, and the Hays Farm office building have all benefitted from Mary Seldon’s skills. Additionally, she’s been essential when it comes to conducting the Huntsville office’s charitable giving—especially during Impact Week, Brasfield & Gorrie’s annual company-wide fundraiser that brought in over $2 million for local organizations in 2023. Last year, the Huntsville office’s fundraising efforts focused on Lincoln Village Ministry (which will also be this year’s beneficiary), an organization providing safe and affordable housing for Huntsville families.
Since relocating to Huntsville, Mary Seldon has done more than just work for a local company—she’s fallen in love with the community at large. She got involved in the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber (HMCC) soon after joining the Brasfield & Gorrie team, and she has attended many HMCC events and made countless valuable connections in just two years. Additionally, Mary Seldon worked with Sara Beth to establish a north Alabama chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in March 2024. Their work with NAWIC has been a significant endeavor for both women as Sara Beth has served as the chapter’s founding president and Mary Seldon has served alongside her as the founding secretary. Mary Seldon also serves on the Development Council for the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.
Though she’s only been in Huntsville for a couple of years, Mary Seldon has already made a tremendous impact on her community through her work at Brasfield & Gorrie as well as her service to numerous local organizations. For these reasons, Brasfield & Gorrie believes she’s deserving of placement on the HMCC’s latest Movers & Shakers list.
