HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (January 26, 2022) – As Mazda Toyota Manufacturing team members cheered, the very first all-new Mazda CX-50 drove past the gathered guests, and into its start of production. MTM is the only facility of its kind in the world, a joint venture partnership between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation. The all-new CX-50, produced in the US, is made for the North American market, particularly to support the active and outdoor lifestyles of customers in this region.
“The CX-50 is purpose-built for the North American driver,” said Mark Brazeal, Vice President of Administration. “And every CX-50 will be assembled right here, in North Alabama by our MTM team members.”
The CX-50’s big moment took place at Mazda Toyota Manufacturing with MTM’s partner companies in attendance, including Mazda North American Operations and their President and CEO Jeff Guyton.
“We are thrilled both to present this beautiful CX-50 to the world, and to celebrate this moment with our partners, both from the North Alabama community and from Team ONE,” offered Brazeal.
MTM will continue to hire an additional 1,200 team members before it is in full production – eventually, they will employ up to 4,000 team members.
“Our team members have knocked this out of the park,” said Janette Hostettler, Vice President of Production. “They are working at the only automotive plant in the world that builds two brand new vehicles on two separate lines. To say I’m proud of what they’ve accomplished would be an understatement.”
The $2.311 billion MTM facility will have the ability to produce up to 300,000 SUVs once it reaches full production. The Mazda CX-50 will be available in dealerships in spring 2022.
