Shannon Dorsey has joined Calhoun Community College as the new part-time Cross Country coach.
With a distinguished background in coaching, management, and athletic achievements, Shannon brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the school’s athletic program. Calhoun representatives say Dorsey’s dynamic leadership and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly inspire the Warhawks to reach new heights.
Shannon has an extensive coaching history. Since May 2009, he has served as Manager and Specialty Running Shoe Expert at First Place Athletics in Huntsville, AL. In August 2015, he became the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Madison Academy in Madison, AL, where he coordinated with administration, parents, and athletes to plan the season, oversaw assistant coaches, finalized entries, designed workout plans, and trained and motivated athletes to compete at their peak. Prior to this, Shannon coached the Youth Track and Field Program at Randolph Elementary/Middle School in Huntsville, AL, from March 2013 to May 2015. His coaching career began as a collegiate athlete at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he competed in Cross Country and Track and Field from August 2009 to May 2013.
Shannon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Independent Studies from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, which he obtained in December 2023.
Shannon’s skills and expertise encompass cross country and track and field coaching, management experience, logistics, leadership, planning, coordination, teamwork, decision making, and detail orientation.
His numerous awards and achievements include being named to the Cross Country All Region First Team in 2011 and the Cross Country All Conference First Team in 2011 and 2012. He was part of the Cross Country Southeast Region Championship team in 2011 and the Cross Country Conference Championship teams in 2011 and 2012. Shannon also achieved the title of Track and Field Conference Steeplechase Champion in 2013 and was part of the Track and Field Conference Championship team the same year. Most recently, he led Madison Academy to win the Men’s 3A Track and Field State Championship in 2023.
