Tyler Roden was hired as Chief of Police at Calhoun Community College in January of 2023.
Tyler began his career in law enforcement in 1986 as a deputy with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office. He attended the Northeast Alabama Policy Academy and received his APOST certification in February 1987. While as a deputy sheriff, Tyler served as a patrol deputy and criminal investigator.
Tyler later also served as a Child Sexual Abuse Investigator with the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office before being elected as Sheriff of Cullman County in 1994 and served in that capacity until 2011.
During his tenure as sheriff, he attended the F.B.I. National Academy and graduated as part of the 183rd Session. After leaving office in 2011, he served abroad as a Law Enforcement Professional for L3 Communications in Afghanistan alongside the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division. Upon returning home, he accepted a position as Chief of Police at Wallace State Community College. After holding this position for 11 years, he was chosen as the new Chief of Police at Calhoun Community College in January.
“It is an honor and privilege to have been selected as the Chief of Police at Calhoun Community College,” commented Roden. “I look forward to being a part of the campus community and working with the members of the campus police department in providing a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. As the new chief of police, I will ensure our police department uses each day to focus on crime prevention, being highly visible, and emergency preparedness to ensure Calhoun remains a safe campus,” he added.
Tyler has been married to his wife, Sonja, for 33 years and they have 2 children, Mary Grace and Sam.
