Huntsville, Ala. – The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is serving as a collection site for new or gently used eclipse glasses. The Rocket Center’s education team is spearheading the effort to collect eclipse glasses for Astronomers without Borders, an organization that provides astronomy education and outreach around the world.
As of mid-May, the Rocket Center had collected more than 8,000 pairs of eclipse glasses — WOW!
Astronomers Without Borders will provide those glasses and others it collects to school children in South America who will experience a total solar eclipse on Oct. 2, 2024.
The Rocket Center education team will collect glasses through Monday, May 27. Eclipse glasses should be ISO-rated and used this past eclipse to ensure they are safe for use in October.
If you have glasses, please take them by the ticket desk or the lobby of the education building of the Rocket Center. Thank you!
