We’ve heard some questions about this, and want to help clear up any misinformation. Huntsville is indeed a 2026 test site for the U.S. Census. The Census Bureau is currently conducting sample tests in our community as well as Spartanburg, South Carolina, and they will use what they learn to conduct the official 2030 U.S. Census.

In the Huntsville area, 80,000 residents were sent an invitation in May asking you to respond online. The addresses are within the Huntsville city limits but also stretch into Meridianville, Moores Mill, and Madison (here’s a map).
If you received this and did not respond, you will receive reminder letters or postcards between now and August 31. A census taker may follow up in person. In Huntsville, due to a partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, that person could be a postal worker, and they will be wearing their USPS uniform.
The online questionnaire takes about 40 minutes to fill out. Your responses are safe, secure, and protected by federal law. All responses are kept completely confidential and can only be used to produce statistics.
If you did not receive anything from the Census, no additional names are being added. It is just the 80,000 who originally received the invitation.
