WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) made the following statement after being selected to serve as the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee in the 117th Congress.
“It’s an honor to be selected by my colleagues to lead the Republicans as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee for the 117th Congress,” Ranking Member Rogers said. “The nature of warfare is changing, and we must adapt accordingly. The future of the free world depends on meeting these challenges. As Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, I will work to modernize our military, combat our rising adversaries, and dominate the battlefields of this century.”
House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) added, “America faces many challenges to our safety and security, and the Armed Services Committee will play an important role in confronting them. It must be led by someone with knowledge and determination. That is Mike. He is a patriot who has proven to be one of the most effective voices in our conference for a strong national defense. As the former chairman of an Armed Services Subcommittee, he was instrumental in the work to rebuild the military, improve readiness, and provide the best equipment to our troops. Moreover, he has championed stronger border security as the ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee. I am confident Mike will lead Republicans on the Armed Services Committee well over the next two years.”
Rogers has served on the House Armed Services Committee for all 18 years of his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives. Alabama’s Third District is home to the Anniston Army Depot and parts of Fort Benning.
Rogers is serving as the House Homeland Security Committee Ranking Member for the 116th Congress, a committee he has sat on since 2005. Under his leadership, the Homeland Security Committee focused on defending our borders, cybersecurity, and protecting our transportation systems across the nation.
