Sept. 7 Zoom Call: Huntsville’s Music Scene

This week, we explored a fun topic — Huntsville’s growing music scene!

Our guests were:

  • Ryan Murphy, President of Huntsville Venue Group
  • Mark Torstenson, Chair of the Huntsville Music Board
  • Annie Phillips, Digital Services Manager for the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library and project manager of Blast, a new local music streaming platform

Murphy updated us on progress at Huntsville Amphitheater, which is under construction at MidCity. The 8,000-seat venue is scheduled to be complete in May 2022. If you’re curious about which musical acts will perform there – Murphy and his team are busy talking with lots of artists, and we hope to hear some announcements by early October. Visit https://www.huntsvilleamphitheater.com/ for more information.

Mark Torstenson, Chair of the Huntsville Music Board, also joined us to talk about the group’s current efforts. The music board is a nine-member volunteer citizen advisory committee appointed by the City of Huntsville. You can learn more about their efforts at huntsvillemusic.org.

Annie Phillips also joined us to talk about Blast Music, a new local streaming platform. Phillips is Digital Services Manager for the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library and project manager of Blast. Listen to lots of local artists: https://blast.hmcpl.org/

We’ll see you next Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. We’ll talk about Alabama’s redistricting process that will be coming soon.
