Cody Smith, SS&L Architects

SS&L Architects would like to recognize Cody Smith, an award-winning architect known for his leadership, service, and early career excellence in the field of architecture. A 2017 graduate of Mississippi State University, Cody earned his Bachelor of Architecture along with the MSU Undergraduate Research Award. He became a licensed architect in just seven years—well ahead of the national average—demonstrating a clear commitment to professional growth and achievement.

Cody recently relocated to Huntsville to lead SS&L’s efforts in the north Alabama market, bringing his leadership and design expertise to one of the state’s fastest-growing regions.

In 2023, Cody was honored with the Alabama Council of the AIA’s Young Architect Award, the highest recognition given to a young architect in the state. This accolade reflects his impact on the architectural profession, particularly through leadership roles within AIA Montgomery, where he served from 2018 to 2022, including a term as chapter president. He continues to support the profession through his service on the Alabama Center for Architecture Board.

Since joining SS&L Architects, Cody has made significant contributions to several key projects across Alabama. These include projects at Troy University, including the Jones Hall Health Science Building, the Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences, and the Student Fitness Center. Additionally, Cody has provided design support on projects such as the Alabama Orthopedic Office, and the Opelika Police Station.

Outside the office, Cody values time with family and travel, bringing a balanced perspective to his work. His combination of professional excellence and community engagement continues to shape the built environment and inspire emerging architects across the state.
