These members of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber are offering special programs for federal workers who are impacted by the government shutdown.
Avadian Federal Credit Union: Offering furlough assistance loans and payment flexibilities.
Farm Burger: Restaurant is offering free meals to furloughed workers every Friday until the government shutdown ends. Offer includes a free chicken burger, fries and iced tea. Please bring your ID.
Greater Huntsville Humane Society: Distributing free dog and cat food to furloughed workers on January 23 from 9 a.m. to Noon. Location: 2812 Johnson Road. Please bring an ID and proof of furloughed status.
Heart of the Valley YMCA: The YMCA will waive membership dues going forward for the duration of the furlough for members who are civilian or military employees of the federal government. Non-members who are civilian or military employees of the federal government on furlough may enjoy use of the Y with their families at no cost during the furlough. Members and non-members need to bring proof of federal employment and proof of their furloughed status. Non-members also need to bring a current driver’s license. Huntsville Botanical Garden: Furloughed workers and their immediate families are invited to visit the garden for no charge. This includes the family dog.
Huntsville Utilities : Huntsville Utilities is asking customers who may have difficulty paying their bills due to the shutdown to give them a call, and they’ll work with you to explain what options you have. The phone number is (256) 535-1200.

Mango’s Caribbean Cookhouse is giving half off the buffet price to furloughed employees. Restaurant is located at 1426 Paramount Drive, Huntsville, AL 35806.
Nothing But Noodles: All furloughed workers can get 50 percent off their entire meal. Work badge or ID must be provided. Offer good at 4800 Whitesburg Drive and 6125 University Drive.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church: The church will prepare dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for families who are furloughed. Please call (256) 881-7223 by 1 p.m. to let them know you’re coming, to help with the head count. Please bring your work badge with you. United Way of Madison County : The United Way of Madison County operates the 2-1-1 information line in partnership with Crisis Services of North Alabama. Call 2-1-1 to learn what resources are out there to assist you. Speak to a local call specialist weekdays until 5PM and 24/7 through the statewide network of 2-1-1 call centers. All conversations are confidential and compassionate.
