The Huntsville metro was recently ranked 5th among the country's top 20 metros for millennials and ranked 3rd regionally behind Austin, TX and Raleigh, NC, according to CommercialCafe. The City of Huntsville, Alabama, ranks #7 on the 2024-2025 best place to live in the United States, according to a ranking by U.S. News & World Report. To make the top of the list, a place had to have good value, be a desirable place to live, have a strong job market and a high quality of life.

SmartAsset examined employment, income, commute, benefits and affordability data for 340 of the largest U.S. cities and Huntsville ranked #1. Huntsville is fairly inexpensive to live in based on average job pay. On average, housing costs make up only 15.9% of the $70,757 annual median salary. Unemployment was 3.9%, compared to an average of 6.9% across all cities.
