HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 8, 2021) – The U.S. Paralympics Cycling Open, presented by Toyota, is quickly approaching. Approximately 100 Para-athletes will travel to Huntsville to compete April 17-18 in Cummings Research Park.

On Thursday, we hosted a news conference via Zoom so journalists could interview some of the athletes, and a representative of Toyota, the presenting sponsor.  We thank cyclists Travis Gaertner, Jamie Whitmore, and Sam Bosco for joining us, and Jason Puckett, president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama.

The U.S. Paralympics Cycling Open is the return to competition for Para cyclists as they compete to make Team USA, to go to the Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo this August. They’re excited to get back out there – it’s been more than a year since most have competed. We are going to see some exciting races, and this is a FREE event. The public is welcome to come out and locate along the course to watch!

Please refer to our Spectator Guide for important information on which roads to take, where to park, and where to watch the races.  It includes this Interactive Google Map with markers for parking, restrooms, and more.  Explorer Boulevard, the main loop for the races, will be closed at 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday to prepare the course for the athletes. You will not be allowed on Explorer either morning after 6 a.m. and Bradford Drive will be closed off to traffic.  This is noted in the Spectator Guide – please plan your route accordingly – we list several options, including Madison Pike to Jan Davis or Voyager Way, Enterprise Way to Discovery, or parking at Bridge Street and walking over.
