A new ranking puts Huntsville second in the United States for best places for tech jobs. Location matters, according to NerdWallet, and that has developers, engineers,
designers and other tech geniuses flocking to the Rocket City.
NerdWallet analyzed 381 metro areas in the nation with populations over 50,000 using data from the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau’s
American Community Survey. With this data, they identified regions that balance opportunity for tech workers with cost of living.
The main takeaways were that top metro areas have lots of people and tech employers, they have a strong connection to the federal government and research facilities as well as high
salaries.
Huntsville came in at number 2, noted for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Redstone Arsenal and affordable housing. The survey said Huntsville has by far the lowest median
gross rent in the top 10 metros at $785 a month.
