The Wall Street Journal has ranked Huntsville as the #10 Emerging Housing Market in the U.S. The study was performed in collaboration with Realtor.com to help home buyers decide on the best place to make housing investments. Winning communities had the strongest returns on investment as well as being great places to live.

Money.com has ranked Madison, Alabama in the No. 12 spot on its 2021 Best Places to Live list. It cites the availability of high-paying jobs in the area, a median household income 35.5% higher than the national average, as well as fun activities.

Huntsville is No. 5 on SmartAsset.com's Top 10 Places for Career Opportunities in the U.S. To determine which places are best, SmartAsset looked at 200 metro areas across seven metrics: unemployment rate, change in total employment over the past year, median income, income growth, annual housing costs, number of career counselors and the number of post-secondary teachers.

For the creation of this ranking, Niche researchers factored in good public schools, affordable costs of living, low crime rates and the overall satisfaction of their residents, culling data from the U.S. Department of Education, the Census Bureau, the FBI and public-sentiment polling. Niche also considered local commutes; diversity; health and fitness of its residents; jobs, and housing costs.
