This Week: Huntsville Hospital operating surge vaccination clinic

February 9, 2021

Update: February 9, 2021

Vaccine supply remains limited, but your best bet to get a COVID vaccine in Huntsville/Madison County is through Huntsville Hospital, if you are in one of the eligible groups. These include people ages 65 and up, healthcare workers, essential workers, teachers, and childcare workers.  Sign up for Huntsville Hospital’s vaccine waiting list through this form.

Huntsville Hospital is running a vaccination clinic by appointment only at the Jaycee Building at John Hunt Park, with Huntsville Police helping direct traffic flow.  This week (Feb. 8-12) is a surge, and the hospital is aiming to vaccinate 1,800 to 2,000 people per day. That amount will drop on Saturday, Feb. 13, when the state’s vaccine supply shrinks.

Hospital staff continue to contact people on the waiting list to schedule appointments.  There are thousands of people on the waiting list, and the hospital is working to call everyone to schedule appointments. They are trying to work through the list as quickly as possible.

On that note, Huntsville Hospital is hiring temporary staff to help with vaccine clinics and scheduling. These include clerical staff, non-licensed personnel, and RNs and LPNs. If the link doesn’t show any current positions, please check back soon, to see more positions as they are added.

Alabama Department of Public Health

You can also call the Alabama Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline, 1-855-566-5333 and be placed on a waiting list for the vaccine at your county’s health department. Supply is also very limited there too, though.  As of early February, the health department was reserving all vaccine supply they have for people awaiting second doses. They hope to open things back up to new people/first doses, sometime in March.

If you’d like to help ADPH with their staffing needs, please email pam.wales@adph.state.al.us – please share if you have a background in medical or clerical work, how much you would be available to work, and the county or counties in north Alabama where you would be available to help.

Patience Urged

Please be patient, keep masking up, keep washing your hands and distancing from others not in your immediate household.  We are hopeful Alabama will receive more vaccine supply in the coming weeks, and more providers will come online.
