HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (September 17, 2018) –  Automotive Interior supplier Mitchell Plastics is expanding its Huntsville, Alabama operation on Highway 72 East in the Chase Industrial Park.  The addition will be approximately 130,000 square feet and will allow the plant to grow with 12 new injection molding machines, a new paint line, expanded assembly area, additional shipping bays, and new offices.  Positions will be available for direct hire after completion of the expansion, estimated to be July 2019.  Interested candidates can view all open positions at and apply online.  Company officials expect to begin construction in October 2018.

“We appreciate Mitchell Plastics’ announcement that they will significantly expand their plant in Huntsville. Expansions of our existing employers are truly special,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle. “Mitchell Plastics is a company with facilities across the world and Huntsville demonstrated it was the right location for this expansion because of access to a highly skilled workforce and competitive cost of doing business.”

“The growth in North Alabama in the automotive advanced manufacturing sector is leading to more growth and expansion for our community partner, Mitchell Plastics,” said Madison County Commission Chairman Dale W. Strong. “I am excited for the opportunity for this long time tenant in Chase Industrial Park and I can’t wait to celebrate with them when they open the expansion next year.”

In the past few years, Mitchell Plastics has expanded their operations with a focus on supporting global customer requirements.  In March 2014, Mitchell Plastics opened a new manufacturing facility in Queretaro, Mexico, supplying a number of automotive OEM customers from that location.  An OEM is an original equipment manufacturer, providing automotive goods used as components in the products of another automotive company.

In July 2015, the company added a sales and engineering office in Munich to support their German OEM customers and is currently exploring a manufacturing plant in Europe.  In September 2017, Mitchell Plastics opened a new manufacturing facility in Sterling Heights, Michigan and more recently in July 2018, a plant in Saltillo, Mexico.

Mitchell Plastics is a privately held Canadian company based in Kitchener, Ontario.  It operates eight manufacturing facilities in North America with more than 2,600 employees and sales and engineering support offices in Michigan, Germany, Japan and China. The company supplies interior components and assemblies to most of the automotive OEM (original equipment manufacturer) companies operating in North America, and has been operating in Huntsville since 2005.

A key strength of Mitchell Plastics’ business is designing and developing interior decorative products and functional assemblies for customers.  Their products include floor consoles, center finish panel assemblies, air registers, glove box assemblies, overhead consoles and every type of painted and filmed decorative part you can imagine.  With the company’s high degree of flexibility based on the diverse product and process technology and vertical integration, Mitchell Plastics is well positioned for continued growth.
