On June 2, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) celebrated the unveiling of the first vehicle in its production line up – the all-new Corolla Cross - on the heels of Toyota’s announcement earlier in the day. The MTM joint venture partnership between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation is in a hiring boom to prepare for production on the Corolla Cross later this year, along with an as-yet-to-be-announced Mazda vehicle.

Calhoun Community College interim president Dr. Joe Burke recently announced his retirement after almost 35 years with the Alabama Community College System. Dr. Burke has been the interim president at Calhoun for the past three years. His last day at the school will be May 28.

CFD Research Corporation, a provider of innovative solutions for the Aerospace & Defense, Biomedical & Life Sciences, and Energy & Materials industries, held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for their new Laboratory Building. The 13,265 square foot building will be located on the CFD Research Headquarters campus in Cummings Research Park, Huntsville, AL.

HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology broke ground virtually on two new buildings. The first is 90,000 square feet, and will be home to Discovery Life Sciences' Global Headquarters. The second will be 13,000 square feet in greenhouse and lab space that will allow HudsonAlpha to take the next large step with plant genomics research for sustainable agriculture work.

Automotive parts supplier, Matsu Alabama, Inc. (Matsu) is expanding production at its Huntsville, Alabama facility. The expansion includes significant investments in new and upgraded equipment to scale-up production, adding two new OEM to Matsu’s client base. The $8.5 million investment will add production lines. Matsu’s site currently employs 217 full-time employees; this project will add at least 10 new full-time manufacturing jobs to the existing team.

This Wednesday, May 5 marks a special anniversary: 60 years since Alan Shepard became the first American in space. He traveled in the Freedom 7 spacecraft aboard a Mercury-Redstone Rocket, which was developed and built right here in Huntsville.

(April 29, 2021) - Maven Packaging, a locally owned and operated manufacturer of custom protective packaging, recently moved into its new 44,000-square-foot facility located in Chase Industrial Park. This new facility will substantially increase manufacturing capacity as well as promote an opportunity for further growth and increased employment.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 22, 2021) — The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation announced today a formal partnership through Hiring Our Heroes (HOH). Huntsville has been selected as the newest site for a full-time program manager to support the HOH Corporate Fellowship Program and other recruitment resources for transitioning military service members.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 8, 2021) - The U.S. Paralympics Cycling Open, presented by Toyota, is quickly approaching. Approximately 100 Para-athletes will travel to Huntsville to compete April 17-18 in Cummings Research Park. In this news conference, hear from three of the athletes, Travis Gaertner, Jamie Whitmore, and Sam Bosco, as well as Jason Puckett, president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama.

Neil Lamb, Ph.D., Vice President for Educational Outreach at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, spoke during our monthly call with Chamber members on April 6. Lamb gave an update on COVID vaccines, improvements in how many people are getting vaccinated statewide in Alabama and nationwide, and the recommendation to continue masking for a bit longer, even though Alabama's ordinance will be lifted.
